Over the past few months we have begun raising hogs on pasture here at Gardner Cultivation Homestead. Since November these little pigs have grown from the cute little 35 pound piglets in the picture above into the 250 pound beasts in the picture below.
Along the way we have had our hands quite full and experienced a rather steep learning curve. Pigs are very strong and surprisingly intelligent. They are naturals at breaking or pushing through even a very sturdy fence and almost nothing makes a person feel quite as foolish as running around trying to catch a loose pig and get it back in it’s pen.
Despite these frustrations, we have enjoyed raising these pigs so much that we have decided to continue keeping and raising pigs here on Gardner Cultivation Homestead. In fact, we will be offering pastured, homestead-raised, chemical and hormone free, all natural pork for sale to our local community here in the Rolla, MO area.
