Garden update: taking down the greenhouse

Gardner Cultivation update 4:25

The wind has really taken a toll on this plastic greenhouse sheeting so we cut it across the bottom and pulled it off the hoophouse. Temperatures are getting warm enough for our lettuce and kale and our garden bed outside is really starting to take off so we decided to open everything up.

This plastic is designed to last 3 years so we will save it for a future project. In the meantime, our plants will now get lots of sun and we can still use the hoop structure to attach some shade material to provide shade for some of our more fragile seedlings.

Our salad garden continues to thrive using our Blend fertilizer and provide several heads of lettuce each week and several bunches of kale.

Meanwhile, our squash and tomato starts are doing well indoors under an LED grow lamp. (What is an LED?) These lamps are a little expensive but are very energy efficient. Using a lamp is the best way to get your seedlings started as early as possible. If an LED lamp isn’t in your budget, a fluorescent lamp works just fine with full spectrum “plant” bulbs in it. We recommend a T5 Grow Light
for this purpose.
