Since turning our garden back into a lawn (see post on May 16th), we have packed up and moved to a small horse farm near Mt. Vernon, Illinois for the summer in order to build our own tiny house. We will miss Colorado, but building our own home is proving to be an exciting and challenging new project and we are enjoying the quiet rural community in Mt. Vernon.
Tiny houses are becoming a popular alternative to traditional housing and are a very cost effective and resource efficient option. We believe that this is an ideal option for people like ourselves who want to grow their own food. Our tiny house will provide a mobile, low maintenance, and almost entirely off-grid place to live that can go wherever we are able to find space for our crops and livestock.
Fortunately, we also have access to a little bit of garden space while we build our tiny house so we are still growing our tomatoes and squash as well as a few onions and salad greens we started in Colorado back in March.
All this change (and living in a tent) has made it difficult to publish new posts. We would like to apologize to our followers for the lapse. Now that we are settling in to our tiny house we will continue to update the blog with posts about growing food, raising livestock, and tiny house living as we search for the perfect place for our tiny house homestead.
