Tiny House

Gardner Cultivation moves to Vida!

Good news! We have finally found an ideal place to park our tiny house. Now that we have put most of the final pieces together and installed some very durable corrugated metal siding from Heartland Metal in Marion, Illinois, we are towing our new home to a beautiful 80 acre property near the small town of Vida, Missouri.

This corrugated metal siding protects our house from the elements as well as debris on the highway. It is also a cost effective and energy efficient option.

Although we have had a fun, interesting, and often frustrating time building our tiny house with zero construction experience, this blog is not about tiny house construction. This blog is about agriculture; growing crops and raising livestock. Our tiny house provides us with the flexibility and independence to pursue this end to the fullest.

Now that we have found a great location to park our tiny house and get back to raising our own food, we hope you will follow our blog as we spend the winter preparing the farm for next year’s growing season. It has been quite a few years since anybody has actually farmed this space, so we have quite a bit of work to do.

There is also no shortage of brush to clear and mow. After a couple days of hard work and several layers added to the compost pile, this yard on the back side of the barn is ready for a fence. This south facing slope might also be a good place for a small garden. We are making good progress right away, but 80 acres is a lot of farm. We are going to need some serious tools and a little help if we are going to get this farm back into productive shape. We will keep the blog updated as we make progress and with a little hard work we hope to produce some quality homegrown food in the coming months.
